Alcove Cabinets & Bookcases

We make alcove cabinets and bookcases to fit all available spaces, and in a variety of materials and styles.

BLACK AND WHITE FITTED ALCOVE BOOKCASES

A pair of fitted alcove bookcases with lower cabinets, made with solid timber shelves that are adjustable on concealed tracks. The whole was designed to be in keeping with the period of the house.

CHINA DISPLAY CABINET

This cabinet is made from a combination of solid timber and moisture-resistant MDF, finished with a satinwood paint. The lower part conceals a radiator cabinet and has a cupboard fitted on either side. The mesh in front of the radiator is made from slats of wood glued together – much stronger than the perforated board often used.

GRAY’S INN LIBRARY

Made from solid and veneered oak, and finished with a hard-wearing wax, this library is fitted into one of the barristers chambers in Gray’s Inn Square. You will see that there is a radiator cover at the far end, made from oak slats glued together. The upper shelves are adjustable by moving the small brass tabs in the track.

GREY FITTED ALCOVE CABINETS

Fitted into a house in Dulwich, these cabinets are made from a combination of solid timber and manufactured boards. The Georgian/Victorian style is inspired by the free-standing furniture that was chosen to be used in this room.

HALF HEIGHT BOOK CASES

These are made using solid oak, and were originally fitted along the length of a corridor. When the customer moved to a larger house nearby, they were removed, and re-fitted in the new house around the back wall of the sitting room.

OAK DINING ROOM FURNITURE

This furniture is made from solid oak, with veneered faces applied to oak boards in the door panels. This furniture was made to be in keeping with the dining table, and is used to store the cutlery and crockery.

OFFICERS’ MESS

The dining room of the Officers’ Mess, King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery, in Woolwich barracks was fitted out with dark sapele fitted side-boards with upstands behind, and a long row of fitted white cabinets were fitted in the adjacent anteroom. The pig’s head wearing a top hat with a cigarette holder in its mouth is a mascot of the troop, and is there to represent the ‘pig-sticking cup’ (on the table below the pig’s head) which was competed for in Victorian times when the Royal Horse Artillery were based in South Africa.

BRIDGE BOOKCASE

This bookcase is fitted into an alcove, with the weight of the piece springing off the two walls, a well as bolts fitted into the walls. The arch-shape has two hidden compartments inside. This piece is made from solid oak, and is installed in an apartment in Northumberland Avenue.

DINING ROOM ALCOVE CABINETS

Made from a combination of moisture-resistant MDF and tulipwood, this pair of alcove cabinet is fitted with lamps above the top shelves. This was photographed before the paint was applied.

FITTED OAK BOOKCASE WITH REEDED PILASTERS

This piece is fitted into a study in a house in Lee. The oak pilaster with pediments and capitals was chosen by the customer so as to be in keeping with a collection of old leather-bound books.

FITTED SIDEBOARD WITH RECLAIMED TOP

The top board was reclaimed from flooring elsewhere in the house, but the lower parts are all made from moisture-resistant MDF, painted with a white satinwood paint.

IRREGULAR SHAPED SHELVES

These are mounted to the wall using long steel bolts secured 150mm into the chimney breast behind. The shelves themselves are made using birch plywood, edged with solid oak, and with oak veneers applied to the outer surfaces. The wall behind at this point was still in need of re-painting.

CORRIDOR SHELVING AND DINING AREA

The flat where this was installed had a very wide corridor which was used as a general storage area. This was converted into a dining area, with display shelves and bookcases, with a standard corridor width still remaining.
